SHILLONG: Hundreds of people attended the prayer congregation and peace march on Monday organized by the Seng Samla Malki from Madan Malki (Malki ground).

Prior to the march, church leaders led the congregation in prayer. The people walked from Madan Malki till Barik and then back.

The participants also carried placards which read, “Pray more, worry less”, “Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly”,  “peace, unity and harmony”, “Sir Conrad, we trust your governance for quick solution”, “Action should be taken for irresponsible SMB, KHADC and Syiem Mylliem”, “Mr. Manjit, keep your logic with u. Let our government do the work”.

Speaking to reporters after the end of the peace march, headman of Malki, HP Offlyn Dohling pointed to the growing demand of relocation residents of Sweepers’ Colony (Them Iew Mawlong).

He informed that a delegation of the residents of Malki met the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently, who told them it is not an easy task to bring an immediate solution to the current situation as legal aspects will have to be studied considering the long pending issue.

He urged the High Level Committee (HLC) to speed up the relocation of residents of Sweepers Lane as he argued that residents of Sweepers Lane create problem for other people who pass from their lane.

In a memorandum to the CM, they highlighted on relocation and also demanded the release of the arrested youth if they are not involved in any illegal activities.

Dohling maintained it is up to the police department to find out if illegal activities are carried out by a few persons.

Meanwhile, a member of Seng Samla, W. Kharsyntiew said the prayer meeting and peace march is to take a step towards pressuring the HLC to speed up the decision to relocate the residents of Sweepers Colony.

She expressed concern over the loss suffered during the days of agitation and the injuries suffered by the people.
