SHILLONG: Mawphlang legislator S K Sunn has asked the BSNL General Manager to provide cellular connectivity to the areas under Hima Nongspung.
In a letter addressed to PG Nirmal, the general manger, Telecom department, Telecom Shillong on Wednesday, Sunn said he had received a letter from Joint secretary, Hima Nongspung that in the entire Nongspung area, the cell phones are not working .
The signals of cellular phones are not available due to the non availability of cellular base stations. The legislator said during 2017 and early 2018, he has been covering all villages falling under Mawphlang constituency as part of his election campaign and he could not communicate with anyone in Nongspung over phone when he was at the place.
Sunn said he had been receiving complaints from students and teachers of different schools besides the people of the area in this regard.
Sunn asked the BSNL official to set up cellular base stations in the areas to ensure that the people are not deprived of information and communication technology.
