One killed, 370 villages inundated in Assam flood, landslides

 

GUWAHATI: Flood and landslides have claimed three lives while as many as 370 villages in seven districts of  Hojai, Cachar, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong(East) and West Karbi Anglong of Assam have been affected in the first wave of flood so far in the state.

One person has lost his life in flood under Bokakhat Revenue Circle in Golaghat as reported on Thursday. A total of 1,66,836 number of population have been affected in the flood. Dhansiri at Numaligarh (Golaghat), Barak at A.P. Ghat (Cachar) and Badarpurghat (Karimganj), Katakhal at Matizuri (Hailakandi), Kushiyara at Karimganj are flowing above danger level.

Meanwhile two persons lost their lives in landslides at Mahur under Halflong Revenue Circle, Dima Hasao. Total 166 houses were fully damaged. Eight people were rescued by fire and emergency services personnel and local volunteers.

NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) teams have been engaged   into service in the flood affected areas for search and rescue operation.  Total 422 persons have been rescued from Karimganj district, Hailakandi, Cachar and Golaghat by them.  As many as 115 number of camps have been operational in Karimganj, Hailakandi, Karbi Anglong (East) and Golaghat with 35,927 inmates.
