SHILLONG: A woman in Shillong who was suffering from bipolar disorder and memory loss was miraculously cured thanks to a local medicinal practitioner and her herbal remedies.
Jngersy Kharshandi of Kyiem village near Mawphlang managed to cure 58-year-old Dorothy Gonsalves who was suffering from bipolar disorder and memory loss.
Addressing reporters here on Thursday, Dorothy’s brother Leo Gonsalves who works as an insurance agent said that it was a blessing for his family as they had lost all their hopes if Dorothy would ever be able to regain her memory. He said, “It has been more than five months after his sister was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and memory loss and they were even forced to tie her legs since she would tend to become aggressive.”
Dorothy’s family even took her to different hospitals including Nazareth, NEIGRHIMS and MIMHANS for treatment but without success.
“We were all depressed since my sister showed no signs of improvement despite taking several medications,” said Leo who also maintained that it was divine intervention when one of his clients gave him the mobile number of Jngersy Kharshandi.
“To my surprise, my sister started to recover within 13 days after taking the herbal medicines. We are all very happy since my sister has regained her memory,” he said
On the other hand, the local medicinal practitioner Jngersy Kharshandi recalled that even her own son was suffering from a similar ailment but she was unable to give him the proper treatment since she was not able to get the right medicinal plants at that time.
“I could only start treating my son when he was 16 years old. He is now 24 and is living a normal life,” said Kharshandi.
Kharshandi said that she started treating people when she was 14 years of age but it was only in 2002 that she decided to become a full time traditional healer. She also informed that as per the notes in her diary, she claims to be able to cure 24 diseases.
Kharshandi said that one of the major difficulties she has been facing is getting the medicinal plants.
“I want to buy a plot of land somewhere in Ri-Bhoi in order to plant my own medicinal plants,” Kharshandi added.
