SHILLONG: Any move to relocate the residents of Them Iew Mawlong is likely to resist by other residents of the city in future, considering the past attempts.
Former Chief Executive Officer of Shillong Municipal Board, A.H Scott Lyngdoh said that when he wanted to relocate the residents of Sweeper’s Lane to Mawprem, there was objection.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Lyngdoh said that a group led by former MP P R Kyndiah had objected to relocating Sweepers’ Lane to Mawprem in the past.
“I tried to build quarters for the Sweepers’ Lane at Mawprem , but it was not materialised since there was objection”, Lyngdoh said.
He also said that another effort was made to construct a quarter in Upper Laban but that too was opposed by the residents.
Lyngdoh pointed out that in Goraline, Laitumkhrah, there are Punjabi residents and the people there have no problem.
Earlier, Nongmynsong residents have also opposed any move to relocate the residents of Sweepers’ Lane to that area.
