GUWAHATI: Concerned at growing cases of thefts in religious institutions, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said such vulnerable places are being identified and special security arrangements will be made at these institutions.

“There has been growing instances of thefts in Satras (Vaishnavite learning seats) and we are very concerned about it,” he told reporters.

Altogether nine cases of thefts in Satras had been reported in recent times and 23 people arrested so far, while three dacoits involved in these thefts had been killed in encounters, the CM added. “Such attempts of robbery at religious institutions may flare up sentiments and we want to control this before the situation further aggravates,” Mr Gogoi said.
