SHILLONG:  A delegation of Delhi Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday met the chairman of the High Level Committee (HLC), Prestone Tynsong here to request the Committee to resolve the long pending issue of Sweepers colony with a humane touch.

The president of Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi Paramjit Singh Sarna   later  told reporters that they were  satisfied with the manner   in which the state government was handling the issue.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Tynsong said that the committee will make the best efforts to resolve the long pending issue of   relocation of the residents of the colony (Them Iew Mawlong),

Tynsong  also said that the issue should not be seen as an issue  between tribals and non-tribals  and the Government treated the residents of the colony as its  brothers and sisters.

“Government is going all out to take care of them,” he said while maintaining that the Committee wants a permanent solution of the issue

He also informed that the Directorate of Land  Records and Survey would start its land survey in the colony from Wednesday

Talking about the demand of the pressure groups to set a time frame to solve the matter, Tynsong said that   the issue had been pending for very long   and asking  the  committee to solve the issue within  2-3 months was not fair

Earlier,  the delegation  of Delhi Shiromani Akali Dal and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee  visited the colony and took stock of the situation  besides holding meeting with elders and religious heads of the Sikh community.
