‘Badte Kadam’ a success in State: Govt

SHILLONG: The Pan India Discoverability Awareness raising campaign for East Khasi Hills District was inaugurated by CD Lyngwa, Assistant Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District on Thursday at Bethany Society Complex.

The inaugural function of the two-day programme was attended by IR Sangma, Commissioner, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills and several officials of various government departments and banks.

The programme, organized under ‘Badte Kadam’ by the National Trust in collaboration with the State Government, was participated by all the eight blocks of the district.

It may be mentioned that ‘Badte Kadam’ is a disability awareness campaign. The National Trust, New Delhi is organizing a mobile awareness campaign, Badte Kadam to raise awareness on disability.

Objectives of the campaign are to provide information on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, provide understanding of NT focused disability, to celebrate diversity.

Addressing the gathering, Lyngwa said the 3rd Badte Kadam awareness campaign was aimed at reaching out all the PWDs and to bring about awareness on the programmes and schemes that PWDs can avail of.

She called upon the parents to take time to enquire on schemes and programmes provided by the government to the PWDs.

IR Sangma said that Badte Kadam programmes has been successful in the State. She urged the PWDs to participate in such events to gain access to various programmes and schemes such as health check-up and programmes provided by Social Welfare Department.

Other highlights of the programme include health camp, short skit among others.
