SHILLONG: The State Congress may have been jolted with the sudden resignation of its senior leader and legislator of Ranikor constituency, MM Danggo. The MLA has resigned with an intention to switch over to the ruling NPP. The development may be an indication that there seems to be more trouble in the store for the Congress in Meghalaya in the near future.

Meghalaya NPP state president WR Kharlukhi believes that that the Congress should be ready for yet another big jolt to hit them in one and a half month time.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Kharlukhi said that the decision of Danggo to join NPP was an achievement for the party which is growing in strength in the state

As Danggo resigned from Congress and as an MLA, it has paved the way for by-election in Ranikor constituency in the state

Reacting to a query, Kharlukhi said that both NPP and its coalition partner  UDP would field candidates that will ensure that the Congress to garner a minuscule number of votes in the by-poll.

He also said that the party would  prepare for the by-poll in the strongest manner.

It may be recalled that in the February, 2018 Assembly elections, then Congress leader MM Danggo had secured 10952 votes while  his nearest rival UDP candidate, Pius Marwein   has secured 8950  votes.

When drawn to allegations that NPP  is out to  poach MLAs of Congress, he said that Congress was making such statements for mere political gain.
