SHILLONG: The Congress is not down and out following the decision of the Ranikor MLA, MM Danggo to resign from the Assembly and leave the party. The party leadership feels that the party   is capable of converting any crisis into opportunity.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Congress spokesperson, Zenith Sangma stated  that there had been attempt to poach the MLAs of Congress but the party was  confident of insulating its MLAs from such attempts

“ We  also have confidence in all our MLAs,” he said while accusing BJP of having a hand in poaching attempts.

He also said that NPP was applying same formula here in Meghalaya which they had applied in Manipur on the advice and direction of the BJP.

When asked about the sudden decision of Danggo to resign from the party, Sangma said that the party had to first verify if he had resigned and if he had really submitted his resignation, whether he had personally submitted the resignation or someone else had done it for him.

“ Everything has to be verified since MLA is an elected post and any Tom, Dick and Harry cannot go and just submit the resignation,” Sangma said

On the other hand, senior Congress leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh said that she was not sure if Danggo had really resigned since she had not spoken to him neither she had seen the resignation letter

Maintaining that the Congress has a lot of experience, she added that   Congress would just wait and watch the whole situation.
