SHILLONG: The NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government is now receiving demands from various quarters for creation of civil sub-divisions ever since Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced creation of the Ranikor civil sub-division.
Pushing forward their demand for creation of a civil sub-division, anorganisation from Mawsynram met Deputy Chief Minister Prestone
Tynsong on Friday to impress on the need to upgrade the Mawsynram C&RD Block into a civil sub-division.
Addressing a press conference after meeting the deputy chief minister on Friday, the All Mawsynram Constituency People’s Conference (AMCPC) president, Gilbert Kharraswai said Mawsynram C&RD Block is one of the oldest in the state and was created prior to the state’s inception. It came into being even before such administration was created in Mawkyrwat or Ranikor, Kharraswai said.
He said that Mawkyrwat has become a district while Ranikor will soon become a civil sub-division.
“We strongly feel that the government should consider the demand for creation of the civil sub-division in Mawsynram,” he added.
According to the AMCPC president, creation of the sub-division will bring the administration closer to the people and it will greatly benefit the people from Mawsynram especially those residing in the border villages with Bangladesh.
The AMCPC president said that they have also highlighted the neglected condition of the Hatmawdon-Dangar road up to Trongpleng which has not been repaired in the last 20 years.
