SHILLONG: Former District Congress Committee chief of South West Khasi Hills, Kitborlang Nongrem, who resigned from the party along with sitting Ranikor legislator MM Danggo, said that the government has agreed to the date of inaugurating the Ranikor civil sub-division.
“We had suggested two dates, July 5 and July 10 and the convenient date for the government is on July 10”, Nongrem said.
Asked about the reasons why Danggo is resigning as MLA and also from the party, Nongrem said the main factor is that the Congress failed to fulfill the demand for creation of Ranikor civil sub-division, whereas the NPP has assured the same.
“We have been making this demand since 2007 when the Congress leaders DD Lapang and Mukul Sangma were in power and made submissions three times, but there was no response from the Congress led government”, he said.
The party leader said that the five-time legislator was neglected by the Congress for at least 8 years. “Many times he was not accommodated in the cabinet”, he said.
Nongrem said there are other demands like setting up of community colleges, upgradation of CHCs and creation of two more C&RD blocks at Khonjoy and Wahkaji which will be taken up later.
To a question, Nongrem said that though UDP may put up a candidate, Danggo is sure to win the by-poll.
