2 Meghalaya kickboxers make Italy cut

GUWAHATI: Two promising kick-boxers from Meghalaya have been selected along with 10 other athletes to represent India in the WAKO World Kickboxing Championship in Italy in September this year.

“The WAKO India Kickboxing Federation has selected Nathaniel Pynbianglang Kurkalang and Ibadarishisha Mukhim from the state to represent the country in the championship in Italy from September 15 to 23,” Lorenzo P. Warjri, the president of theMeghalaya State Kickboxing Association told The Shillong Times on Saturday.

Both the kick-boxers are from Shillong.

Nathaniel is a resident of Mylliem Mawri and Class IX student of St Gabriel HS School in 3rd Mile, Upper Shillong while Ibadarishisha is a resident of Lumparing and a Class XII student of Laban Presbyterian HS School.

“The duo will be taking part in the junior categories.  They will be undergoing training at a camp which we presume will be held at Faridabad a month before the event,” Warjri said.

Two team coaches, eight team officials, three referees and a head of the delegation will accompany the 12 athletes to Italy in September.

“The MSKA will have to deposit Rs 2.90lakh with the federation for the participation of the two athletes in the event by June 28,” he said.
