TURA: Teachers under the All Garo Hills 4thTeachers’ Association have submitted a memorandum to Education Minister, Lakmen Rymbui urging him to look into the enhancement of their salaries at par with the amount being received by Assistant Teachers.

According to the teachers, while assistant teachers enjoyed a salary amount of Rs9900/- since April 1 2013, 4th teachers were paid only Rs 6000/-. Similarly, while SSA teachers have been receiving a salary amount of Rs 20,493 with effect from January 1 2017, 4th teachers are being paid only Rs 12000/- per month.

“All of us are doing the same work with the same experience and same qualifications. We feel that paying the 4th teachers less is a discrimination, and request that our salaries are immediately enhanced at par with the pay status of Assistant teachers,” They said.

Further, pointing out that around 1521 4th teachers have been serving under SSA posts for long periods with requisite qualifications at the time of their appointment, the teachers urged that they are taken into consideration and that immediate steps are taken to regularize their services.
