SHILLONG: The Climate Change Adaptation North Eastern Region (GIZ CCA NER) project in collaboration with the Central enterprise, North Eastern Handicraft and Handlooms Development Corporation Limited and Siendentrum facilitated 12 participants on Friday.
The participants from Manipur, Sikkim and Meghalaya have completed a seven-week master trainers’ course on weaving using the Flying8 Loom at the Nela Handloom Training centre in Mawkasiang.
The training was conducted by a GIZ consultant and the innovator of the Flying8 Loom from Hamburg Germany, Andreas Moller.
The purpose of the training was to equip weavers from different states of the Northeastern region to have the knowledge and the skills to produce fabric using the Flying8 Loom and to become skilled Master Trainers, which they can in-turn help promote as well as increase the hand weaving skills, production and earnings of the weavers of India. The Flying8 Loom can produce about 12 metres of fabric per day in comparison of the conventional loom that produces about 5 metres. It is also body friendly, easy to use and cheaper than the existing conventional loom.
