JOWAI: The KSU has threatened to take action if the government fails to implement the mechanism to check immigrants from entering the state.
“The government has failed to keep its promises over setting up of entry and exit points. We are still hopeful that the government would do something in this regard, otherwise the KSU will set up its own entry and exit points”, said KSU president Lambokstarwel Marngar while speaking at the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected office bearers of the students’ body in Jaintia Hills on Saturday.
The KSU chief also spoke on various problems faced by indigenous people of the state including unemployment, border dispute and others.
Meanwhile, the KSU Jaintia Hills Unit held an election on Saturday to elect new office bearers for a three year term from 2018-21.
Most of the office bearers were elected uncontested including its president Ohibait Dkhar, general secretary Albinus Lamuron and others. However, two candidates — Bennison Franky Kamar and Cherity Suja Kamar — were elected as vice-presidents after an election was conducted.
Around 360 KSU activists from 36 units in Jaintia Hills exercised their franchise in the polls on Saturday.
