New Delhi:  The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday welcomed the Delhi High Court stay on cutting of thousands of trees in Delhi till July 4.
“AAP welcomes the decision of the High Court to stay any further felling of trees in Central Government’s VIP housing project in Delhi. It was a daylight mass murder to fell 17,000 trees,” AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj tweeted.
He demanded that the Central government should scrap this project and also thanked the people of Delhi for standing up to save trees.
People of all ages hugged trees on Sunday, recreating the ‘Chipko Movement’ of the 1970s — a forest conservation movement where people embraced the trees to prevent them from being cut.
The Delhi High Court on Monday asked authorities not to axe the trees sanctioned by the Central government for the redevelopment of six south Delhi colonies.(IANS)
