Discussion on rural governance

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Ms Agatha Sangma, on Friday held discussions with a Norwegian delegation about cooperation in local governance and active role of women in development process especially in rural areas.

Ms Liv Signe Navarsete, Minister for Local Government and Regional Development and Ambassador Ann Ollestad of Norway took part in the meeting with Ms Sangma.

Various aspects of rural development were discussed including important schemes for providing rural employment, connectivity, social pensions and other rural development schemes.

Ms Navarsete shared the experiences of local government in Norway and expressed how both countries can co-operate in the field of Local Governance. Active role of women in development process especially in rural areas in India was appreciated during the discussion.
