The turtle was released by Nikcheng Ch Momin DSP HQ with the aim of restoring home turtles in Jolding Wari to attract tourists.
Recently on June 1, the SP of the district Sacheng R Marak also released one.
Sacheng and Nikcheng are trying to mobilize the general public to be aware about peace and tourism development in the district by bidding farewell to militancy.
Jolding Wari is a natural lake about 7kms from the district headquarters.
The ancestors believed the goddess of this lake always cleansed the water and hence the water is pure and crystal clear. The people of this area are trying to restrict fishing and hunting of wild tortoises.
The violators will be handled by the Wildlife Act of India to prevent destroying the natural habitat of the animals.
According to the history of the place as said by a local resident, there are other wild animals which are found here which includes myna, parrots, hornbill, kites, doves, tigers, bear, monkeys, deer and stags. The king turtle was found to be extinct a long time ago.
The GSU North Garo Hills has appealed to the people not to destroy different species in the water and to restore the beauty of motherland.
