JAC formed to pursue development

Mawkyrwat: The people of Shiliang Um Rilang area in South West Khasi Hills District on Sunday held a general meeting at the Community Hall, Mawthawpdah to discuss about the problems faced by the people of the area where it was unanimously decided to form the Joint Action Committee (JAC) to pursue the developmental activities in the region.
 The meeting was chaired by Rescoman Ramsiej, chairman of the Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong, Shilliang Um Zone Sepngi who was a convener of the meeting in which he briefly explained the objective of calling the meeting.
 ”The main objective of the meeting is to come up with the solution on how to control social evils like alcohol and ganja that has destroyed the career of many youths in the area and also to take up various issues and developmental activities with the government,” Ramsiej said, adding that cooperation between the village councils, NGOs, women and youth organisations plays a crucial role in fighting these problems.
 The meeting also elected Commander Shangpliang as the chairman of the JAC Shilliang Um Rilang Area. Buk Lyngdoh Mawnai, Khrawjingngeit Wanniang and Rescoman Ramsiej were elected as vice chairman, Moonliroi Lyngdoh as general secretary, Pynsuk Lyngdoh as assistant secretary, Boni Shangpliang as organising secretary, Wallam Nongsiej as publicity secretary, Reality Kharjahrin as finance secretary, Dominic Shangpliang, Edilbert Iawphniaw and Kral Iawphniaw as advisers along with five executive members.
