SHILLONG: The Governor of Meghalaya Ganga Prasad expressed hope that the state government  would take initiatives to include the life stories of state martyrs in the school curriculum.

He was speaking at the commemoration of state’s martyrs at Raj Bhavan on Monday to pay homage to late David Manlun who laid down his life last year for the country.

Speaking on the inclusion of the martyrs’ lives in the curriculum, he said, “The Raj Bhavan received a favourable reply from the chief minister of the state at that time. I hope necessary action is being taken by the state government so that in the next academic season, the youth will come to know about the sacrifices of these sons of India.”

Prasad said it was the second time that the Raj Bhavan organized the commemoration programme. Last year, the Raj Bhavan remembered the sacrifice of late Captain K. Clifford Nongrum.

According to him, the families of officers had given their most valuable assets to the nation

He observed that the Raj Bhavan felt the need to organize annual function to commemorate the martyrs especially from the state with the objective to inspire young people to serve the nation.

Earlier, in the programme, the Governor felicitated the parents of late Major David Manlun.

Subedar Khamzalam, father of Manlun expressed happiness that both Nongrum and Manlun performed their duties well.
