SHILLONG: A month after the violent incidents in the city, midnight curfew for five hours till 5 am will continue and police have beefed up intelligence network to gather information on the mischief mongers.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P S Dkhar said on Sunday the district administration is yet to decide on lifting the curfew completely.
The district police chief Davis Marak admitted that the city is not cent percent normal.
“There can still be some elements to instigate people and create disturbance. But we are keeping a close watch,” Marak said.
He, however, did not elaborate further on the matter. Marak added that deployment of available central forces will continue.
The police have also taken action against those who posted inflammatory messages online.
The High Level Committee on the relocation of Punjabi Lane will meet this week to discuss the joint survey report of the area.
The residents had opposed any move to shift them from the current location and protested the headcount of the people initiated by the Municipal Board.
