108s swing into action on action on fateful Sunday

SHILLONG: On a day which had as many as seven accidents reported from across the district, the 108 Emergency Service Ambulance (ESA) did well to timely admit the injured to various city hospitals and thus save many lives.

Apart from Javed Alam, who died on the spot when a truck hit his motor cycle at Rhino Point, the rest of the accident victims were catered to on time by the 108 ESA.

In separate incidents, a Maruti 800 local taxi (MLO5H-2291) went off the road and fell into a gorge at 11th Mile, Mylliem while on its way to Shillong and a motorist and a pillion rider sustained injuries when the motor cycle they were travelling on was hit by a Maruti 800 coming from the opposite direction at Mawnianglah on Sunday evening.

Earlier on Sunday morning, a truck travelling towards Jowai was involved in a head on collision with a Tata Sumo on its way to Shillong. In another similar collision, a Maruti 800 and a Bolero hit each other head on at Wah Mynso, under Mawryngkneng Block at 2:51pm. The Maruti car was going to Jowai while the Bolero was travelling towards Shillong when the incident took place. The 108 ESA Mawryngkneng rushed the injured to Woodland Hospital, Shillong.

Meanwhile, Lumlang Lamare (30/male) sustained injuries when he was hit by a vehicle while walking on the side of the road at Madanriting Bazar on Sunday. And in another case of accident, a pillion rider sustained injuries after falling off the scooter when it skidded at Mawlai Mawroh. All the injured were rushed to the Shillong Civil Hospital by the respective 108 ESAs of the areas.
