SHILLONG: The state security commission headed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will meet on Wednesday to recommend names for the new DGP amid the hurdle due to the recent Supreme Court order that barred appointment of any acting DGP.
The July 3 order of the Apex Court also said before appointing the new DGPs, states will have to approach the Union Public Service Commission at least three months before the retirement of sitting DGPs.
The tenure of current DGP S B Singh expires on July 31 after he was given extension for three months.
An official source said on Tuesday that considering the Supreme Court order, the security commission will not be able to make any final decision. “One way will be to file a review petition in the Supreme Court citing the peculiar situation of Meghalaya regarding the paucity of time to appoint a new DGP in consultations with UPSC,” the source added.
