Manipur landslides kill 9 including 5 children

GUWAHATI: Nine persons including five children were killed due to landslides that occurred at three different locations at Tamenglong district of Manipur in the wee hours on Wednesday, police informed. The landslides were triggered by incessant rains in the area.

The rescue teams have recovered all the nine bodies. The five children from a family died in sleep when the landslide swept away their dwelling house located at the Ward No. 4 of Tamenglong district headquarter which is about 156 kilometer away from the state capital Imphal.

Two other persons died at another location there after their house crumbled under the pressure of landslide. Landslide in another nearby location killed a mother and his son. Details are being awaited.
