TURA: The absence of a transformer at Anchenggre Village under Gambegre Block in West Garo Hills has resulted in villagers having to live in darkness for quite some time now even as several complaints have been made to the MeECL officials in this regard.

According to the villagers, the village has been under darkness for almost three months and the brunt of the problem is being borne mostly by school children who are unable to study properly for their half yearly exams.

The villagers alleged that when they approached the MeECL Office to inquire about the matter, they were told by officials to wait for two or three days required to clear the line of any obstruction from trees and plants.

“We have done as we were told and we have waited not for three days but three months. However, nothing has been done to rectify the problem and we are still living in darkness,” the villagers said.

Angry over the delay to resolve the matter, the villagers are demanding from concerned authorities that the old malfunctioning transformer is repaired or that it is replaced with a new one as early as possible.
