SHILLONG: Border Security Force Director General K K Sharma said the Centre is taking steps to counter radicalisation in the country.
Talking to media persons here on Friday, Sharma said radicalisation of Islam is a worldwide phenomenon spread by the misuse of social media.
Responding to a query, Sharma said people can easily be brainwashed these days through doctored videos and inflammatory literatures without entering their home.
“This process is dangerous and the government of India is fully aware of the situation,” he said.
The BSF will use drones to monitor border areas. Drones are mostly meant for the western border rather than the east.
Maintaining that Pakistan is a hostile neigbhour, he said they have unsuccessfully tried to divide the country in the past through the Khalistan movement and are now trying to disturb the peace in India through Jammu & Kashmir.
He also informed that in spite of the BSF asking for more battalions, the Union Government has sanctioned only six.
Four of the battalions are earmarked for integrated check posts like Wagah and others and the other two are reserved battalions which are meant for law and order duties, he said.
