SHILLONG: General administration department (GAD) minister, Comingone Ymbon has denied the allegations that the government-owned Meghalaya Houses are reluctant to give rooms to the common people of the state.
Talking to media persons here on Friday, Ymbon said if the rooms are available, they are given to each and every common man from the state.
“Rooms are allotted depending on the availability,” he said.
It may be mentioned that a large number of people including students and patients often go to metropolitan cities of the state for different work.
More often than not, it becomes difficult for a common man to get accommodation in Meghalaya Houses until and unless he is referred by politicians.
Earlier this year, even Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope on the floor of the House had cornered the state government over the unavailability of rooms for the general population in the Meghalaya Houses set up in different parts of the country.
Pyngrope lamented that many rooms in Meghalaya Houses in different parts of the country lie vacant for months even though there is demand from people.
He said the support for catering to the VIPs and high officials should be abolished and done away with.
Meanwhile, Ymbon also said the state government has already written to the Karnataka government for allotment of land in Bangalore for the construction of a Meghalaya House. However, till date , there is no response from the Karnataka government on the matter.
“ We will send a reminder to the Karnataka government again on the matter,” he said.
