AGARTALA: Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath lashed out at Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for ‘promising’ Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of supplying power from the proposed Palatana power project to neighouring nation.
Referring to the recent Bangladesh Prime Minister visit to Tripura, Nath alleged that the programmes were noting but a well crafted design to take political mileage with party losing its grip in the state. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday Nath said that Chief Minister of a state could not speak on the country’s foreign policy.
“In the Indo-Bangla business meet at Prajna Bhavan on January 11, the Chief Minister had virtually lamented over the role of the Central government in presence of Bangladesh Prime Minister and Bangladesh Foreign Minister.
Besides, Chief Minister was supposed to speak for only 11 minutes in the Civic Reception at Assam Rifles ground on January 12 but he had spoken for about 28 minutes”, he pointed out.
Nath also expressed surprised at the way contribution of Sachindra Lal Singh, the then Chief Minister in the Bangladesh Liberation War was ignored even in the Civic Reception.
According to Nath, it was Sachindra Lal Singh who did a lot during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
Putting question mark on the CPM’s role in the Bangladesh Liberation War, he said, “Everybody wants to have good relation with Bangladesh. But the Chief Minister will be responsible if anything goes wrong in bilateral ties with neighbouring country”.
Nath alleged that he was not allowed to receive Bangladesh Prime Minister at Airport on January 11 on security ground.
Angered by the development, Nath has lodged complaint with President Pratibha Singh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against the Chief Minister.
