GUWAHATI: The BSNL Assam Circle  launched its VOIP (Voice Over Internet Telephony) “Wings” service in the state  on Tuesday with Chief General Manager Telecommunications , Assam Circle, Sandip Govil making the first call.

This service using Mobile Numbering scheme is being provided using IP based access network of IMS NGN Core switches.

Talking to the media  on the occasion, Govil said, “To use this service, a customer needs to install the “Wings app” on any smart mobile handset or tablet having internet to make and receive calls from anywhere in India and abroad with any SIM card.”

He said the service would be commercially rolled out across the country from August.

Pointing that BSNL has been one of the two telecom operators in the country whose market share has increased last financial year, Govil said, “In Assam too, we have done well. He further said one lakh new connections were given in the state last year and there are 20 lakh working connections at present.

“We want to continue with the positive trend and have come out with a number of new schemes for landline, broadband and mobile connections, among other services. We hope the public will benefit from these,” Govil added.
