AIZAWL: Mizoram Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman, a Keralite, said, he has found another ‘God’s own country’ in this remote northeastern parts of India.
“Owing to its natural beauty, Kerala is dubbed as ‘God’s own country’.
Since I arrived Mizoram a few months back, its natural beauty mesmerised me. I found it more worthy of calling ‘God’s own country,” expressed Purushothaman, who is on his third official tour as the state governor.
The Governor made these remarks while addressing a public meeting at Thenzawl town in northeastern part of Mizoram.
Before this, he had visited places of tourists interests in and around Thenzawl, including the picturesque Vantawng waterfall.
He felt that Mizoram was yet to properly tap its God-gifted natural resources which could earn a lot of money just like his home state Kerala has been doing for years.
“The beautiful handloom and handicraft products, the colourful traditional attires and dances, besides the scenic beauty, are too good to remain hidden from the world. We have to take steps to attract tourists from across the country and the world,” he urged.
In every village and town he visited, during the two-day tour, the governor was accorded a rousing welcome with cultural dances.
On his way back to Aizawl, Purushothaman took time to meet the world’s largest family who lives at Baktawng village, about 90 kilometres from the state capital Aizawl.
This meeting, the Governor said, was what he had been eagerly looking forward to since he became the Governor of Mizoram. (UNI)
