Traffic police collects Rs 16 lakh as fine

SHILLONG: More than Rs 16 lakh was collected by Shillong Traffic police as fines from traffic violators in June, SP Traffic B J Laloo said on Thursday.
The amount is more than what was realized in May, Laloo said.
580 vehicles were fined for wrong parking, while 208 violators of no-entry signs were also not spared.
342 were driving without seat belts and eleven were fined for drunken driving and non– FIR cases were taken up against the offenders for the same.
288 were fined for driving without license, while thirteen were fined for permit violation.
Forty seven persons were also fined for driving without helmets in addition to other offences under the MV Act.
