MES staff awarded jail term on bribery charge

GUWAHATI:   The CBI Special Court here has sentenced an office staff, Lakhan Bhuyan of Military Engineering Service (MES) posted in Tezpur, Assam to maximum four years in jail besides imposition of total fine of Rs 30,000 after he had been found guilty of accepting bribe from a new recruit for processing and dispatching latter’s appointment letter.

The court of Special Judge here sentenced Lakhan Bhuyan, office superintendent, CWE, MES, Tezpur, Assam Under Sections 7 and 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act. A CBI case (No. RC 12(A)/2015-GWH) was registered against Lakhan Bhuyan on the basis of a written complaint filed on September 28, 2015. The charge sheet was filed before the court of the Special Judge on December 29, 2015.

The CBI informed that the MES staff was accused of demanding bribe of Rs two lakh from one Supriyo Das for processing and dispatching the latter’s appointment latter for the post of Mate (SSK) in MES, Tezpur.  Bhuyan later reduced the bribe demand to Rs one lakh and he was caught red handed at his residence while accepting Rs 15,000 as part payment of the total bribe money on September 29, 2015.
