Sonowal bats for women power

GUWAHATI: The Assam government aims at strengthening financial condition of every family of the state and making women economically self-reliant, Assam Chief Minister said at the Mahila Samaroh in Dhubri on Saturday.
The chief minister distributed cheques of revolving fund under Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Achoni scheme amounting to Rs 25,000 to 10 women self-help groups in the district.
The scheme will cover 6,372 SHGs with a financial outlay of Rs 10.54 crore.
Sonowal said the government intends to increase the amount of revolving fund to SHGs under the scheme on the basis of performance and would also provide training to enhance their capabilities.
Citing Hima Das as an example of women power in the state, Sonowal urged women to encourage their children to invest their energy in different fields of their choice.
He stressed on the importance of education for the girl child and informed that the state government had already announced setting up of nine colleges for girls in minority areas out of which two would be set up in Dhubri district.
Further, he exhorted the people not to worry about the final draft of NRC that would be published on July 30.
If name of anyone is not included in the final list, the person would have opportunity to file claim and objection against the same, he added.
