TURA: The Director of School Education and Literacy recently interacted with elementary school teachers in North Garo Hills to find out the root causes for poor performance in SSLC and HSSLC in the district.
The interaction took place on the sidelines of a workshop and capacity building programme on quality education and career guidance organised by the district administration under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and Counselling Scheme.
Director A Ch Marak said government schools in particular are lagging behind. He welcomed teachers to a threadbare discussion so that a road map can be prepared to improve quality of education. “Let us all come out of our comfort zone and do the needful for the betterment of our education system,” Marak said.
The director also emphasised the need to implement midday meal scheme in every school. He told teachers about the guidelines which mandate punishment in case teachers fail to provide midday meal.
DC S.C. Sadhu while addressing the audience said the results of the board examinations reflect the poor quality of the education system. “The poor result is a minor symptom of a major problem in the education system,” he said.
