Former govt official held in MPSC petrol bomb attack case

SHILLONG:   Shillong Police have more or less  cracked the recent case where two people had  thrown petrol bomb at the  Secretary’s room inside the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) by  arresting a suspended officer of the Meghalaya Government who was the mastermind behind the entire incident.

The main accused who is a suspended Meghalaya Civil Service Officer (MCS) surrendered on Wednesday night at the Lumdiengiri police station.

The officer whose identity was not revealed was also produced before the court on Thursday and police sought police custody for the accused.

However, sources said that the main accused who surrendered before the police has been identified as  one Grandwill Harly Passah , the former BDO of Jirang C&RD Block  who was arrested earlier by an SIT of Shillong police headed by former SP (City) Vivek Syiem for ‘abetment of suicide’ in the suicide case of late Patharkhmah former sub-inspector (L) PJ Marbaniang.

When contacted, East Khasi Hills SP  Davis Marak  said that the person who was arrested earlier has confessed that he was asked by the arrested MCS officer to do commit the crime.

Marak also said that the accused person who were arrested in the case earlier have told police that they were threatened by a person not to reveal anybody’s name and the person who threatened them was a driver of the officers sister.

Marak also said that the case is more or less solved and police now just needs to question the arrested officer for further clarity on the matter.
