SHILLONG: Pranoy Kumar Musahary, retired judge of the Gauhati High Court and chairperson of Meghalaya State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, will be the new chairperson of the Meghalaya Lokayukta. During the July 24 meeting of the selection committee, the name of Musahary was cleared.
The name will be forwarded to the governor for his approval.
Sources said since the matter is also pending in the Supreme Court, the government will file an affidavit mentioning the selection of the retired Judge as the chairperson of Lokayukta.
According to sources, Meghalaya Lokayukta will start functioning with the lone chairperson after the governor’s approval as the Lokayukta in bigger states continues to function with only a chairperson.
According to the Lokayukta Act, the anti-graft panel will have four members, besides the chairperson.
The government may appoint the members of the Lokayukta at a later stage.
