Redding (California): At least six people have died in a deadly fire that has ravaged a large swathe of California and continues to grow amid dry weather conditions severely hampering efforts to control the blaze.
The Carr fire was just 17 per cent contained on Sunday night, having burned over 95,000 acres of land, the US media reported.
Tom Bosenko, the sheriff of Shasta County, where the blaze has been raging since last Monday, told reporters that sixteen people had been reported missing, but nine of those were found safe.
A total of 38,000 people were evacuated from Shasta County. California’s Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency in the area, as well as in three others. US President Donald Trump approved federal aid for the counties. (IANS)
