SHILLONG: As Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has set up check gates in different parts of the state following the publication of final draft NRC in  Assam, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma felt that it was not appropriate for any non-governmental agency to involve themselves in this process.

Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, Conrad Sangma said that everyone as a citizen was concerned about the issue   and they  (KSU) did what they thought should but this was a task and work of the government.

“ It is not appropriate for any non governmental agency to involve themselves in this process and if they have anything to add, they should discuss with the government and we will act,” the Chief Minister told reporters.

Sangma informed that the Meghalaya Government has set up check gates and he is personally monitoring the situation with the Deputy Commissioners and SPs of different districts of the state

“ We are in touch and I have asked them to take utmost care and they are submitting report to me every day.  We are doing our part and though situation is fluid but we are alert,” he said

It may be mentioned that a day after the final draft  of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published in Assam,  the Khasi Students’ Union  set up infiltration check gates in three districts and detected more than 1,000 immigrants.
