SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said the government is moving forward with regard to the setting up of entry/exit points in the state.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme, Sangma said, “There have been many locations where land acquisition has been completed and some locations are still left.”
“We had a review some days back and today we had a review with the Tourism Department regarding the issue and the government is moving forward. A lot of advancement has been made and will ensure that this moves forward,” he said.
It may be mentioned that there has been a delay in implementing the entry/exit point to check influx in the state.
As for the fear of infiltration in the state following the release of the draft NRC, Sangma said it is not the final draft.
“The Supreme Court clearly states that nobody is going to be treated as foreign citizen just because of the draft bill,” he said.
“The state is very much vigil about what is happening and keeping a tab on everything. Close watch on everything. I have been speaking to all respective SPs on the phone every day since this happened,” he said.
He informed that he has asked SPs to submit report to him also and ensure that sufficient manpower is there in all the critical points and the DG who has taken over now has called a meeting and review the whole situation.
“Therefore we are alert about the whole situation but nothing is clear right now. But we do everything to ensure that the interest of our people is protected,” Sangma said.
