SHILLONG: The state government expects more Japanese tourists after the Japan government has lowered the level of travel advisory for East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts.
An official statement said on Thursday that the Raj Bhavan has received a communication from the Japanese Embassy on Wednesday in this regard.
“This will open up four districts to Japanese visitors and tourists and enhance people-to-people contact as well as economic exchanges between Japan and Meghalaya,” the statement by Raj Bhavan said.
This is in follow-up of the request made by the governor to the ambassador of Japan when he last met him in Shillong on May 7 and the subsequent communication between the Raj Bhavan and the Embassy of Japan.
The governor hoped that the tourism industry in Meghalaya will get a fillip due to this positive development.
