Intellectuals to hold seminars, meets over language demand

SHILLONG: PHE Minister Samlin Malngiang on Saturday said that the Khasi language has not been listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking at the seminar organised by the Department of Khasi, Shillong College and Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS), the minister asserted that the public representatives are not taking the matter seriously while KAS have been demanding inclusion of the language in the Eighth Schedule for 38 years.
KAS president DRL Nonglait said from August to September, the society will organise similar seminars in six districts starting from Shillong College followed by public meetings.
