SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union, Mawkynrew circle has urged the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and Mawkynrew MLA and cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh to set up a government college or any other mechanism at Mawkynrew Block which would help bring in educational development.
The KSU said that Mawkynrew C&RD block is lacking in many infrastructural investments and is among the less developed regions in the state.
“Not even a single government secondary school is available in Mawkynrew. In spite of this, people take education as their priority and stride forward through various contributions and facilities provided by different religious denominations and villages,” said the KSU.
“The unavailability of higher institutions in the vicinity has resulted in students having to pursue their studies in the city where the cost of learning is expensive especially for the poor. This often takes away the dreams of many bright young minds,” the KSU added.
