TURA: Barely has one controversy died down that another has risen putting Independent candidate John Leslee K Sangma once again in the thick of a storm.
The National People’s Party (NPP) has filed yet another model code of conduct (MCC) violation charge against John Leslee on Monday citing use of loud speakers in a locality beyond the stipulated time of campaign.
In his complaint before the Returning Officer, NPP’s Mathias Marak, election agent to chief minister Conrad K Sangma, lodged that the Independent candidate was repeatedly violating the election code and cited the use of loudspeakers in an election meeting at Dolampong locality well into 11 O’clock on the night of August 11th.
The NPP stated in its official complaint that after violating the Model Code by giving inflammatory speeches wounding the religious sentiments of the people, the former MLA has once again broken the rules and violated a Supreme Court ruling that bars use of loudspeakers beyond 10 PM.
“John Leslee’s actions of deliberate and willful violations and taking the election rules and laws for granted is regrettably not a healthy example,” stated the NPP complaint as it urged upon the Election commission to look into the matter to ensure a free and fair poll.
