GNM nursing school, maternity child hospital near completion

NONGSTOIN:  Minister of Health & family welfare Alexander L Hek along with Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat on Wednesday visited the ongoing construction of the GNM School of nursing in Mawiaban and the Maternity Child Hospital (MCH) at Upper New Nongstoin.
The inspection was carried out after the Nongstoin legislator had urged the Health Minister to visit and speed up the inauguration of both the ongoing construction sites which will benefit the people of West Khasi Hills.
Accompanied by West Khasi Hills District Medical & Health Officer WW Phira and his staff, it was found that both the GNM and MCH are nearing completion with 95 percent of the work already completed except for the road from NH 44 E leading to the GNM School of nursing.
While inspecting the MCH, only the kitched remained unfinished.
Addressing the media, Hek claimed that the construction of both the MCH and GNM was nearly completed and expressed hope that within a few months both the nursing school and the MCH will be inaugurated.
“I will take up the matter with the Chief Minister and he will speed up the process as per the needs of the people of Nongstoin,” Hek said.
Hek also stated that he was satisfied with the progress of the construction work and done by the department adding that the people will be the ones who benefit the most out of this venture.
Meanwhile, Macmillan Byrsat expressed his happiness after the inspection and said that by the inauguration of both the MCH and GNM it will create hope and benefit the youth and the people of Nongstoin in general.
He also urged the DM&HO to prepare a report within a week and to forward it to the government where he along with the Health Minister will follow up on the matter as soon as possible.
Byrsat claimed that the 100 bed Civil Hospital in Nongstoin is too congested and that the inauguration of the 50 bedd Maternity Child Hospital will solve the problem.
