Kohima: The Kyong (Lotha) Hoho and the Wokha Gaon Burhas (GB) Association have expressed their strong opposition and objection to any “designated camps” and rehabilitation packages to Adivasi militants on the soil of the Kyong Naga community by the Assam government.

In a joint statement, the Kyong Hoho and the GBs said note has been taken of the treaties between the Government of Assam and militant outfits as reported in a section of media.

The Kyong Hoho appreciated “signing of any bilateral ceasefire” between the government of Assam and militant groups as stated in the media report that about nine ‘adivasi outfits’ were ready to sign truce pacts.

However, it has voiced concern at the rehabilitation packages for the landless and the proposed setting up of “designated camps” at Golaghat district.

“The executive council of the tribal apex body, Kyong Hoho of Wokha district, have resolved that in order to maintain the age old traditional friendship with the counterpart (Assam), no designated camps and rehabilitation for the landless Adivasi should be made in the soil of the Kyong Nagas,” the ‘Hoho’ declared in its statement.

The organisation called “unfortunate” the Government of Assam lodging a complaint with the Government of Nagaland alleging “land encroachment ignoring the age old traditional boundaries of the Nagas and the Ahoms in Assam.”

The ‘Hoho’ has strongly objected the move, saying, “Contradicting the Supreme Court proceedings by accommodating the landless and setting up of designated camps within the so called disputed belt may invite a serious complication,” the statement said. (UNI)
