SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills district administration is set to withdraw night curfew from Monday.
Curfew was in force in parts of the city for the last two and a half months following the altercation at Harijan Colony and the subsequent mob fury.
Later, there was gradual relaxation of the curfew imposed on June 1. But the district administration allowed the night curfew to continue to ensure law and order in the city.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said on Sunday that he would seek clearance from the SP regarding lifting of curfew once and for all.
“We wanted to continue the night curfew till August 15 and since the situation has improved, we will take a call in the meeting on Monday on whether it can be lifted,” Dkhar said.
Even if the curfew is withdrawn, security personnel will be on guard in vulnerable areas, sources said.
