SHILLONG: Arts and Culture Minister AL Hek has asserted that the work for the Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture is likely to be completed by December this year. The project is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 151.33 crore.
However, the building is a part of the project that includes building of other segments and getting equipment.
“We have already told the contractor that we want to finish the project at the earliest in view of the upcoming National Games,” Hek said.
The project when completed will act as an international convention centre with state of the art facilities for hosting mega cultural events like music, theatre, dance, film festivals and others.
It will house two international standard auditoriums with seating capacity of 1750 and 612 and a smaller theatre complex with over 300 seating capacity.
The front of the complex is designated for a 15,000 capacity open Air Concert Area.
It will also function as a training centre offering employable skill development courses in art, music, films and television and multimedia for the youth of Meghalaya and Northeastern region as a whole.
