Much-hyped South Tura lacks basic amenities

TURA: With the chief minister Conrad Sangma being in the fray in the by-election, South Tura constituency in Garo Hills has been under constant media glare of late. However, the most hyped constituency lacks basic amenities like proper communication, water supply scheme and illuminated street lights.

A Group of journalist spoke to citizen from varied backgrounds in the constituency and tried to know the real issues and difficulties faced by the people.
Aditya Having, a teenager, said that the constituency had no proper road besides suffering from acute drinking water scarcity.

An elderly woman, P Check Marak, who was waiting for her turn to cast her vote in one of the polling stations on Thursday, also echoed similar views terming road and water scarcity as the biggest problem in the constituency.
A youth, Tinku Sangma while sharing his thoughts only said, “We want development in the area.”
It may be mentioned that almost all the candidates, who have contested South Tura by-polls, have made quite a number of promises to woo the voters and it will be known only on August 27 as  to which leader, people have given their mandate to.
