Accident
On August 22 around 1:20 am, one Tata Sumo vehicle (ML-08C-8704) driven by Sultan Sheikh (20) met with an accident at Hatibelpara in South West Garo Hills, while transporting BSF personnel. Five BSF personnel sustained injuries and were taken to CH Ampati for treatment. Three of the victims were later referred to the CH in Tura.
On August 22 around 1:40 am, one Tata pick-up vehicle (AS-01JC-2038) driven by Dharmendra Baishya (31), drove over the road divider at Mawtnum in Ri Bhoi and dashed crashed into a truck (AS-01DD-3485). The driver of the pick-up died on the spot while one other occupant sustained grievous injuries.
Assault
Police on duty at Rilbong called 108 emergency services on Wednesday night regarding a case of domestic violence. The victim identified as Lucy Rose Thabah was assaulted by her husband. On reaching the scene EMTs found that the victim had sustained head injury and was severely bleeding. She was transported to Civil Hospital by a Shillong-based 108 ambulance.
On August 19 around 4:30 pm, one Badondor Syiemlieh (22) entered the house of Geeta Nongbet at Howel Road, Laban and stole two cell-phones, strangulated her and also attempted to snatch one necklace from her while she was sleeping. Police have arrested the accused.
Demisha Marak lodged a complaint stating that on August 7, one Somballine Marak attacked her with a dagger on the St. Andrew School premises in West Garo Hills.
Man falls off wall, dies
On August 17, Ajay Singh fell off a guard wall at Bawri compound, Lukier Road. The victim sustained injuries and was taken to NEIGRIHMS where he later succumbed to his injuries on August 18. The matter is now under enquiry.
Drug bust
On August 21 around 5:00pm, Police raided the house of one Protarsius Marwein at Siejlieh, Mawiaban village in West Khasi Hills and recovered 12.19 grams of suspected heroin.
Fraud
D Sylvester L Mawlong lodged a complaint on August 23 stating that one Vicky Diengdoh cheated him of Rs 7,50,000 by promising to get him a commercial licence to deal in LPG.
Nityananda Deb lodged a complaint stating that on June 7, 2018 one Sukumar Roy claiming to be representative of Bharti Airtel Ltd., Kolkata, fraudulently cheated him of Rs 17,500.
Jayanta Dey (Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong) lodged a complaint stating that on August 20, while issuing local taxi stickers, one Fonilansing Kharbhih and Sirda Kharbhih produced photocopy documents of one local taxi (ML-05Q-6016) belonging to Bidingstar Marbaniang whose vehicle was already issued on August 7.
Ananda Das lodged a complaint stating that on August 15, Rs 54,000 was fraudulently debited from his SBI account by an unknown person.
Rifleman missing
Rifleman Bikas Gurung of 43rd Assam Rifles was reported missing from HQ, Directorate General Assam Rifles since August 20.
